The movie Warkop DKI Reborn Jangkrik Boss! Part.1 which has premiered since September 8, 2016 has again set a new record. This time, the movie produced by Falcon Pictures has broken the previous Indonesian highest-grossing movie record, which has lasted for the past eight years.
Through their twitter account @FalconPictures_ (20/9/2016), the production house which has also filmed the successful Comic 8: Casino Kings Part.1 (1,2 million viewers) and Comic 8: Casino Kings Part.2 (1,8 million viewers) announced the success of Jangkrik Boss! Part.1 to reach over 4.687.000 viewers.
That number has surpassed Laskar Pelangi (2008) which gained 4.631.841 viewers. Jangkrik Boss! Part.1 still has a chance to widen the lead because it is currently still playing throughout theaters in Indonesia.
“Thank God, I’m very grateful that Warkop DKI Reborn can reach the first position of Indonesian box office of all time. Thank you to all Indonesian viewers who have given a positive appreciation to all our hard works. Thank you also to theaters throughout the country and our friends in the media who have given us nonstop supports,” said Frederica, Falcon Pictures’s producer, in her press release as published by detikHOT (20/9).
This success affirms that the passion of viewers to watch Indonesian movies in theaters is still very much alive. With strong content and on target promotional strategy, Indonesia movies still have a chance to defeat the domination of import films which has been going on lately.
Falcon is sharp to realize that the name Warkop DKI is not merely that of a comedy group, but a name that has the support of numerous fans. So, they were willing to take the time for a year in order to obtain the license to use the Warkop DKI name in a movie.
“The longest process is waiting for the agreement from the large Warkop DKI family, which consists of Dono’s, Kasino’s, and Indro’s families. They have a lot of things to consider,” said Frederica, when intervied by Beritagar.id in the movie premiere at CGV Blitz (2/9).
Not wanting to disappoint the trust they were given, Falcon treated the Warkop DKI Reborn project as befitting of a big name. They spent Rp15 billions for promotions. That amount is even bigger than the production cost that amounted to Rp10 billions.
“A good content may not amount to anything without good promotion. Because Warkop DKI belongs to all, so we tried to promote this as widespread as we could so everyone will know that this project exists,” continued Erica.
Their hard work has met success. Congratulatory messages for their achievement as the highest-grossing Indonesian movie of all time are coming from many actors and actresses.
“Congratulations for the Warkop DKI Reborn family and Falcon Pictures who have set the record as the highest-grossing Indonesian movie of all time. You have done an amazing job. This achievement is the like the best present for Warkop DKI who had made us laugh for all these years,” said Arifin Putra.
“For Warkop DKI Reborn, Anggy Umbara (director), and all those involved, congratulations for being the highest-grossing Indonesian movie of all time. Hopefully, this can become a motivation for everyone,” said Sophia Latjuba.
Vino G. Bastian who stars as Kasino also extends his gratefulness and thanks to all the viewers. “This is what I strongly believe in, if a movie has good content, and is promoted well also, then it will reach success just like Warkop DKI Reborn,” he explained.
Other records which has been set earlier by Jangkrik Boss! Part.1, among others are: the movie with the most number of viewers in its premiere (270 thousand viewers), simultaneous showing with the most number of viewers in a day (556 thousand viewers), and simultaneous showing with the fastest time to reach one million viewers. The last two records are even sanctified by Indonesian Museum Of Records/Museum Rekor Indonesia (MURI).
“MURI records awards that are based in quantity, not quality. We are not authorized to give the best Indonesian movie award because there are already other institutions for tha,” said Jaya Suprana, founder of MURI, as stated in the Liputan6.com site (17/9).
